4th & 5th Grade - May 10, 2014

May 10, 2014

Dear Families,

This week we will be going over a bit heavier of a lesson with the class. We will be examining exactly what death is and why it happens. We will talk about why we have funerals and how we remember people we are presently separated from.

The children will be reviewing Romans 5:12 to look again at what the ultimate cause of death is, sin. The children will also learn that there are really two very different kinds of death: spiritual and physical.  We want the children to understand the various stages of life and death for a believer, how our spirits begin life dead and separated from God but then come to life through Him.  We want the children to understand the hope that we have in Jesus, that our spirits will not feel death's sting if Christ is in us and that there is the promise of a future bodily resurrection.

The memory verse for this week is Romans 8:10  "If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness."

We hope that the children find this lesson to be useful and ultimately hopeful.  We will try to be as sensitive as possible while teaching about this important topic.  Thank you for partnering with us to teach your children about the Gospel.

Nancy and Severn

4th & 5th Grade - May 4, 2014

Dear Families,

We went back to the very beginning in today's lesson.  Back to Genesis 1 and God's creation of the earth, heavens, plants, animals and His image bearers, us.

We drew out of Genesis 1, what God is like and what it means to be created in His image.  We talked about His goodness, His power, His love, and His purposes for His creation.

In each lesson, we want to help the student learn to draw God's truth out for themselves.  We seek to model for them how make observations and draw applications from scripture passages.  What's happening?  Where and when is this taking place?  Why is it important and what can we learn?  These are all good questions to ask when reading the Bible.

It would be wonderful if you would take some time this week to go over Psalm 19.  (It fits nicely with our study of Genesis 1.) Vv 1-6 the glory of God in creation of the natural world, vv 7-9, the glory of God in His word, and vv 10-14 how His words meets our spiritual needs.

Our memory verse for this week is Genesis 1:27, 31  "God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. . . And God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good.

Thank you for your faithfulness in bring your children each week.  We love and pray for them.

4th & 5th Grade - April 26, 2014

Dear Families,

A few Sundays back the children got to learn about some of the attributes of God.  This Sunday we will be learning much more about one of my personal favorite attributes:  God's immutability!  God's unchanging nature, how God neither grows weaker or stronger with time because he is, was and will forever be perfect in all ways.  I personally am amazed at God's immutability and thankful for it because it means His love for us will never change.  God will never abandon those who believe Him.  God even loved us even before he made us we are told in Romans 8:29-30.  God's perfect love will be with us everyday of this life and beyond.

The children will be reading through part of Romans 8 this week and discussing God's unchanging, immutable love for us.  Our memory verse will then be coming from James.

James 1:17  "Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow."

We thank you for any time you are able to spend this week talking with your children about God and His love for us.

4th & 5th Grade - April 13, 2014

April 13, 2014
Dear Families,

Have you ever studied your Family Tree or looked up the meaning of your name? Those are two of the things we discussed at Kids Zone today. We looked back to our parents, grandparents, great grandparents and further back to the first parents, Adam and Eve, and discussed who named us. Then we asked who were God's parents and who named Him? As we studied the book of Exodus chapter 3 verses 14-16 we discovered that God had no beginning, He was not created and no one gave Him His name. As a result when the Children of Israel wanted to know His name, God said, "I AM WHO I AM." It means that God has always existed.  This is a concept that must be accepted by faith though it is not without evidence.

Your children reviewed the 7 I AM statements in the New Testament -- we studied these in the Gospel of John. Try taking one of these each day to discuss with your students. See how many of them they can remember.
(I Am the Bread of Life, I AM the Good Shepherd, I AM the Door, I AM the Resurrection and the Life, I AM the Way the Truth and the Life, I AM the True Vine, I AM the Light of the World)

The time you spend with your children studying God's word will produce much fruit. Thank you for your diligence.

April 2014

Dear parents and families of our dear 4 and 5 year olds,
“Spring has sprung” and we soon will be focused on celebrating together the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Even though the resurrection of Jesus was already taught earlier in March, we will review it on April 20 for our students and for any visitors we may host.  The take home papers for the week before, therefore, will be different than usual.  If you still have your copy of the take home paper for March about Jesus’ resurrection, please review that story with your child.

If you are able to join the church workday April 12, your help and fellowship will be welcomed.  It is a profitable time cleaning and weeding to make our facility look its best for our celebration of Jesus’ resurrection.  Let’s prepare our hearts to be clean and holy in God’s sight as we anticipate and worship Him every day as well as on Resurrection Sunday!
We pray your family finds a special, deep joy in your times of sharing God’s Word and talking to God together.  May your growth together in Him be blessed!
