4th & 5th Grade - March 22, 2014

Dear Kids' Zone Families,

This week the children will be learning about a rather complicated subject, the Trinity.  We will be looking as verses of Scripture that teach important lessons about the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Our goal is to give the children a clearer idea of what the Bible says about God!

We will be looking at John 14:26 where Jesus tells us that the Holy Spirit is sent by the Father to teach and remind us His truth.  We will be looking again at John 14:6 where Jesus proclaims that he is the truth, the life and the way to the Father.  Then we will be looking at 1 John 3:1 to talk about the wonderful love the Father has for us!

Part of 1 John 3:1 is going to be our memory verse for this week:  "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!  And that is what we are!"

We invite you to have a discussion this week with your children about the the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  It can be difficult to teach the concept that there is only one God but that he eternally exists in three persons so we greatly value any discussion time you can have with your children this week!

Sincerely,

Nancy and Severn

4th & 5th Grade - March 16, 2014

Dear Kids' Zone Families,

We have just finished our study of the Gospel of John and are now beginning a series of topical lessons based on questions some of the children have asked. The children have asked some wonderful questions about God and the Bible that we will enjoy answering over the coming months!

Because all of our answers will be coming from Scripture, the first lesson will be on what the Bible is and how we use it.  We will be teaching the children that all of the Bible is God's inspired word for us and that the Bible shows us that we need God to save us.  We will also be giving them some practical instruction on how to use the tools in their Bibles such as a concordance!

The memory verse this week is 2 Timothy 3:16 "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness."

We would love for you to show a Bible with a concordance to your children this week and see if they remember how to use it!

Thank you letting us partner with you to disciple your children,

Nancy and Severn

1st - 3rd Grade - March 23 - April 20, 2014

Dear Parents,

Happy Spring!---almost! It feels like spring is in the air at least. Here is what will
be happening with your 1st - 3rd graders in the next month.

We are still going through the Bible starting with Genesis and have finally made it up to
Joseph, one of those wonderful patriarchs from the Bible with some pretty amazing
stories. We still want the kids to know the 2 promises God gave Abraham: (1) that he
would be blessed with as many children as there are stars in the sky and (2) that the
whole world would be blessed through him because of Jesus.

We are learning a Bible verse which we repeat for a few weeks until we think most of
them have learned it completely. They are on their take home pages and we ask them to
repeat them to you before they go to bed. The verse for this week is Philippians
1:6---...”being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on
to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Starting next week they will learn Psalm
121:7-8---”The Lord will keep you from all harm---He will watch over your life; the Lord
will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”

If your child says this verse to either of us by the end of class they can put their name
in a box and we will have a drawing for something special on May 23. (They do not need
to be present to win!)

Here’s the rundown of stories we will be covering over the next few weeks. Also,
Teachers Thom & Liz will be gone for the next 2 weeks but Jan Hazzard will be teaching
the class. She substitutes in the summer and has a great time with your children!

March 23--Joseph interprets Pharaoh’s dream. Genesis 41:1-36

March 30--Joseph made ruler. Genesis 41:37-57

April 6--Joseph gives food to his family. Genesis 42:1-44:34

April 13--Joseph reveals himself. Genesis 45:1-47:12

April 20 is Easter Sunday so there will be a combined class for the 1st-5th graders.
Watch your bulletin for more details on that.

Thanks for bringing your child each week. We enjoy each and every one of them. They are
a great group of kids!

March 2, 2014
Dear Families,
Today is our last Sunday to be studying the Gospel of John. Next Sunday, March 9th, Carl Laney will be presenting a Power Point on The Life of Christ taken from all four Gospels, and we will have a celebration and drawing for another ice cream certificate.

Our goal from the beginning has been to give our students an understanding of Who Jesus Is, and what it means to Believe.

We have seen Jesus as, fully God and fully man, the Word, the Light of the world, the Bread of life, our Good Shepherd, the resurrection and the life, the Way the Truth and the Life, our substitute, our Savior and King.

We have defined Belief as trusting, relying on, putting our confidence in, and having faith in. It was a growing conviction and a growing faith for the disciples and it is the same for each one of us.
Our prayer is that each of us, students, teachers, and parents would continue to grown in our knowledge and love for Jesus and that we would share the truth of who He is and what He has done with others. In John Chapter 1 we learned that God sent Jesus into the world to bring light and life to mankind and in our last lesson today, the resurrected Jesus is sending the disciples into the world to carry the same message.

This week ask your students what the Truth is that Jesus wants us to know and what is the Truth Jesus want us to tell others. The following are some of the verses we memorized. They may help is answering those questions.

John 20:31 these things have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.
John 1:4 In Him was life; and the life was the light of men.
John 5:24 whoever hears my word and believe him who sent me has eternal life.
John 6: 33 For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.
John 10:10 A thief comes to steal and kill and destroy; I came to give life, life in all its fullness.
John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
John 17:3 Now this is eternal life: that they many know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

Thank you for your support and partnership as we studied the Gospel of John,
Nancy and Severn
